Old Money vs Blackstock & Weber, Velasca, Duke + Dexter, M.Gemi & Sabah

Five of the most-searched suede loafers in the world, laid next to ours. Same silhouette, same handmade suede, one-seventh the price of the dearest pair on this page. Here is exactly where we win — and the three places we don't.

What the same shoe costs, six ways

Each brand's own published price for a comparable suede loafer.

Blackstock & Weber $395
Velasca ≈$355
Duke + Dexter ≈$335
M.Gemi $248
Sabah $210
Old Money $84.00

Velasca publishes in euros (€328) and Duke + Dexter in pounds (£250); both dollar figures are conversions and move with the rate. Blackstock & Weber does not expose a price to crawlers — $395 is the mid-point of the retail range we could observe.

Buy Old Money if…

  • You want the loafer to look right, not to be a conversation about welting.
  • You'd rather own three colourways than one — the bestseller comes in eight.
  • You are buying a shoe for the next few years, not the next few decades.
  • You want it dispatched in 24–48 hours and returnable for 14 days, no questions.
  • You'd rather spend the difference on the rest of the outfit.

Buy one of them if…

  • You want a Goodyear-welted shoe you can resole repeatedly. Blackstock & Weber build for exactly that; we do not.
  • You want a printed, embroidered or hand-painted vamp. Duke + Dexter have built an entire house on it. Our shoes are plain on purpose.
  • You want a longer, freer returns window. Sabah give you thirty days and pay the label; Duke + Dexter give you twenty-one. We give you fourteen and you cover postage.
  • You want a shoe made in a workshop you can name and visit. Sabah and M.Gemi are genuinely, verifiably that.

If any of those is a hard requirement, buy theirs. We would rather lose the sale than the trust — and if none of them is, the rest of this page is for you.

"Varies" means the brand does not publish a single global figure — not that the answer is unfavourable to them. Prices are each brand's published price for the comparable suede model as of July 2026 and will move; Velasca's is converted from €328 and Duke + Dexter's from £250. Blackstock & Weber does not expose a price to crawlers, so $395 is the mid-point of the observable retail range. Where a competitor is genuinely better built for a purpose — welting, resoling, returns, free shipping — the row says so, and three of them beat us on returns.

Three things that actually change the shoe

Everything else on a loafer is marketing.

01

The suede is the shoe

Every pair on this page starts with a hand-worked hide. Velasca, Duke + Dexter, M.Gemi and Old Money all build on suede uppers, and the visible difference between them at three feet is close to nothing. The spread from $210 to $395 is not a spread in material. It is a spread in retail leases, wholesale margin, and how many hands take a cut before the box reaches your door. One of those brands has a genuine construction argument. The rest have a price list.

02

Welting is a decade decision

Blackstock & Weber build a Goodyear-welted shoe on a double leather sole. That is a genuinely different object — you can take it to a cobbler in 2036 and have it come back new. We do not build that, and we are not going to pretend we do. If you resole shoes, buy theirs. Most people never have, and never will. Note what sits beneath it on this page: Duke + Dexter charge $335 for a bonded TPU sole that cannot be resoled at all.

03

One pair, or three

A loafer is a colour decision as much as a shoe decision. Mocha under denim, beige under linen, black under tailoring. At $395 a pair you make that decision once and live with it for a decade. At $84.00 you make it three times, for less than half the price of one of theirs, and stop thinking about it — which is, in the end, exactly what quiet dressing is supposed to feel like.

The only maths that matters

Assume you wear a loafer twice a week for three years — roughly 300 wears.

$1.32
Blackstock & Weber · per wear
$1.18
Velasca · per wear
$0.19
Old Money · per wear

Based on each brand's published price divided by 300 wears. A Goodyear-welted shoe resoled twice will beat this over fifteen years — which is the honest caveat, and the reason the matrix above says so.

The questions you're actually asking

How can these be a seventh of the price?
Because there is no boutique lease, no wholesale margin, and no department-store markup between the workshop and your door. Every brand on this page sells through Selfridges, Farfetch, END or Neiman Marcus, and each of those takes a cut before the shoe reaches you. We sell direct. That is the whole difference, and it is not a secret.
Are they as well made?
In the ways that show, largely yes: handmade suede upper, clean stitching, the same unstructured last. In one way that matters to a minority of buyers, no — a Goodyear-welted shoe like the Blackstock & Weber Ellis can be resoled indefinitely, and ours is not built for that. If you resole your shoes, that difference is worth $340 to you. If you have never once resoled a shoe, it is worth nothing. Worth noting: Duke + Dexter charge $335 for a bonded TPU sole that cannot be resoled either.
Is the suede real?
Yes. Handmade suede leather, the same material category as the others on this page. The Old Money Shoes™ collection is built on it.
What if they don't fit?
Return them within 14 days for any reason, no questions asked. There is no return or handling fee — you cover the return label only. Orders dispatch within 24–48 hours and typically land in 5–7 business days.
Which colour should I buy first?
Mocha, then beige, then black. Mocha is the most versatile brown ever put on a loafer — dark enough for navy, warm enough for cream. If you are only buying one pair, buy that one. If you are buying two, buy beige second.

Dress with class. For less.

The same silhouette that sells for seven times more in a London showroom, handmade in suede, and dispatched to sixty-five countries in forty-eight hours.
